You Seldom Ever Know

You seldom ever know what you'll bring forth -
The life you live, the children you value as great worth,
The friends you acquire and all your good works and deeds -
Apply throughout, right down to the garden seeds.

You planted the seeds but even with loving care
It is a fact some seeds are not viable and may not bear.
Some soil isn't nourishing and the small plant dies.
These facts are so well known it seems ludicrous. We know the "whys."

But we're still disappointed when our best efforts fail.
It's a variable of life always and the same law prevails
To every seed and every form. We plant and trust
That the seed will have life and grow, rising from the dust.
