When You Win By Default
Every four years we watch the political system at work
And most of us breathe a sigh of relief when it's over with no one hurt.
Of course we feel a whole lot better if our personal choice won.
We all have our reasons and our agenda to hang our choice on.
I've often wondered, through the years, if the candidates are looking to honestly win
Or if their promises are empty and hollow as last year's sin.
And usually the one who is lagging behind and dragging up the rear
Is the one who will not agree with anything that's been said all year.
If a candidate can only win by being destructive
And can not, in reality, offer something that resembles constructive,
He may figure if he can only keep that "winning" guy from winning,
Then he'll get the election by default. That's only the beginning
Of a term of four eternal years of destructive decisions
With not a whole lot of improvements and not much vision.
It's a democratic system and it's a good system, but its outcome is only as good
As the soul of the man we elected. That is completely understood!

We, in some cases, have to base our evaluations of our candidates on their words and actions... and if their
words are empty - so will be their term in office. By the time we discover their words were empty so are our
expectations, and maybe even our wallets.
