When We Have to Wait

It's not natural to want to wait - not on anything,
But in case you never noticed, none of us has sprouted wings
In that department. It does seem such a waste of so much time.
That's probably how we get in trouble every time.

If we didn't have to wait on first one thing and then another,
We'd be a tiny bit ahead, or at least up to date - one or the other.
Upon occasion, when we performed a real live miracle and we're right on time,
We were so proud of this miracle, not like we'd committed a crime,

But hardly anyone notices our miracle. That's no more than you should have done.
It seems to be a human condition. You're either late or waiting on some other one.
If everything went right on schedule, just think how much more
We could accomplish. We'd be a lot more productive than ever before.
