When Life Is Cut Short

When we're young, this seldom is a consideration at all.
We do see it happening to our fellow travelers when they fall,
But we still expect the young to have their chance to live long
And experience life, stake out their claims and sing life's song.

But sometimes, and we can not completely understand just why,
The little child or young adult loses their chance at life. We cry
And ponder "why" - did we not come to stay a lifetime while?
This is the part that defies our earthly comprehension, resorting to denial.

That's when we rail against what appears such unfairness and we
Can only see with our human eyes and we feel with our human heart - so we only see
The human loss and feel cheated for those taken much too soon,
But in our hearts we understand that God has a plan and we are not immune.
