When I Recall

Everyone has "old sayings" that come to mind from time to time.
There were ones for all occasions, most funny, but few sublime.
Some were handed down from way back when - a hundred years ago!
They originally were some wise or comical person's observation or tale of woe.

Can you remember when you were just starting to put thoughts together?
Some of these made little sense as you think back and tried to gather
The sense of them, but you went with them and they became a part
Of your childhood and followed you - later became dear to your heart.

Usually, these were related to the financial times or social situations,
Each from its own colloquialisms and what was going for that generation.
Of course there are "new sayings" being added even as we speak, but we do hold
Near to our heart the ones of childhood memories that we were told.
