When Hope Is All We Have

When hope is all we have, our faith is truly put to the test,
For hope is born of faith, a truth we have confessed!
It's when life drones on in unrewarded hope
We must summon renewed faith to even begin to cope.

When these times come and we can see no earthly reason to ever hope again
Is when our faith is truly tested and we are filled with pain.
When life says, "No" and we can not begin to see the reason why,
'Tis the greatest challenge we will meet, here, before we die.

But, in my experience, a thwarted and unfulfilled hope surely beats
A hopeless life, for where there's hope we will deny defeat.
Maybe, in the final analysis, hope is its own reward.
It makes "unbearable" become "bearable" and fills that empty, empty void.
