When Did All This Happen?

It actually appears to happen all at once, real sudden like!
But if you scrutinize more closely you will recall it wasn't so sudden like.
One day you only saw a young and lovely mirrored reflection.
No blemishes nor lines to mar the familiar. No suggestion

That any change was even taking place so you canceled out
Any minor apprehension when evidence even slightly presented doubt.
This phase continues throughout the middle years
When evidence doesn't adequately confirm our closest fears.

To some, this next phase continues to linger on the edge
And the vision of youth remains, reaffirming our pledge
To defy the ravages of time and never allow this thing to be.
So in the end, some may never, ever grow old. This would be their key!
