When August Comes

By the time August arrives, we feel sure the heat will never end.
We've just about reached our limit of endurance. The wind
Evades us, the rain is falling somewhere else.
The heat is stifling us and we can hardly breathe.

So it's no wonder we reach for that welcome September.
It brings relieving cool, which is hard to remember.
The gold, orange and russet leaves begin their parade.
The goldenrod keeps nodding and waving, promising it'll never fade.

And glorious October with all the wonders it has to offer.
It really ushers in the remainder of the parade, opening heaven's coffer.
I hope there's September and October on the other side.
The beauty there, we're promised, will exceed this and reach heaven-wide.
