What Poverty Really Means

The average person of average means has no real conception
Of the consequences in every area of a deprived life.
It is basically considered a physical handicap, which is true,
But the tentacles of deprivation reach far beyond the physical you.

Those things, the outside world will witness as a matter of degree,
But this situation also robs you of opportunities that could set you free,
Not just physically but mentally and spiritually. It limits a soul in learning
And confines a promising life to a condition of "hungry yearning,"

To learn every facet of life that is beckoning from their very soul.
This, obviously, is an inherent part of our eternal identity, ages old.
There are some in this world who can and do understand
About this inherited condition of life on this earth and its limits on man.

Haven't you ever wondered why the very circumstances of birth
Pretty well set the scene for your journey on this earth?
I understand now, more clearly, it is likely a class in survival
That gives your soul a real workout on pain and patience revival.

If you handle this situation and come through smelling like a rose,
You have advanced your soul and most likely learned, and it now knows
About deprivation in every aspect of its defeating plan.
If and when you survive at all, and especially "successfully," you now understand

What hardship really is, and you have garnered a real awareness of thankfulness,
Of courage, hard work, patience and determination in all their fullness.
Now how you show your "diploma" is to reach out your experienced hand
To offer some other struggling one who is following you in this land.
