Those Who Dwell In Make Believe

You really wonder why some people feel so cheated or dissatisfied
With their own reality that they feel compelled to hide
The emptiness that dwells within. It comes through none-the-less
To all who touch their lives but they will never confess.

So one who can't accept reality sometimes dreams up something to make them feel
That their life has been perfection personified. This appeal
Has a double purpose - to feel the emptiness and present a pretty front,
But in their reality they would truly know it's just a maneuvered stunt.

The tales they weave would put reality to shame and one day
Their denial is so embedded, it superficially becomes their reality and they can not say
With conviction, which is real and which isn't. So the lie becomes real
And they no longer can differentiate or know what's real and how to feel.

"Make believe" is for children who have no experience so they make their own,
Which is all right as long as they can know the difference and return to the known.
Occasionally, when life has been fulfilled with disappointments, some react
By continuing to dwell in make believe until they no longer can face the fact.

Most of us have had our "less thans" but somehow we always just know
The difference and we accept what is and what isn't and we go
With that. At least we now have a chance to upgrade and improve
Our life and times and understand what it is that we are trying to prove.
