The Value of the Gift

We always look forward to the Christmas season as a time of reunion and celebration.
Everyone seems to have goodwill towards heaven and earth and all creation.
Even those who are preoccupied with their own needs and desires seem
More light-hearted then before and can even be generous; it's like a dream.

We seldom question what prompts people's generosity and what it means to them.
We accept with grace this display of caring, and hope it might live on with them.
The spirit of a gift could well outshine the monetary price tag or designer label.
The gift can best be valued by the spirit in which it's given. If we're able

To differentiate, we'll assess what value is being conveyed or how real
Is the spirit in which it was given. Remember homemade gifts? How proud did you feel?
It's nice to receive valuable gifts but the spirit in which they were given
May, sometimes, outshine the price tag! Now, that is really living!
