The Things We Cannot Change
There'll be many things in our lives that we cannot change
Some we would not, even if it could be arranged.
When we first become aware of our lot in life it takes a while
To evaluate, to learn to survive, and maybe even to reconcile.
You understand this is the scenario you were born to,
And that part is already a fact. What you choose to do
With what you got is what your life will be about.
Sometimes, this choice will take many, many routes.
Your lifetime will always amount to how you process
What life has landed you. Some lives, I must confess,
Seem so privileged and yet others are just impossible. This is confusing,
And if you drew the negative, you do not at all find it amusing.
When you've met head-on your dragon, and you've fought the good fight,
You may have won and you may not, but you feel you did it right.
That's the ultimate consideration. You took what you got and did your best.
You're wiser now. You stood firm in the face of a mighty hard test.
As years pass on and all your recollections are in this same old vein,
You naturally review with mixed emotions and a whole lot of pain.
It was an accomplishment, just not the one you were aiming for.
Few of us, despite our dreams, ever reach that visualized star.
We're here on a personal mission - to strengthen our own soul.
That doesn't necessarily mean great riches nor polishing a lot of gold.
How we handle what we're handed will directly relate
To the final score we make on our latest test of fate.
