The Strongest Needs

Life has its own physical needs that are basic to us all,
But on a mental and emotional level, there is ever on call
Someone to love and someone who'll love us. It is an inner soul need,
And the other unnamed need is "just to be needed."

How many reading this have ever put these words
Away for safekeeping because no one has ever even heard
Your cries for these basic soul needs?
Life is so busy just trying to survive, we fail to notice the seeds

Of futility and hopelessness that pervade many lonely souls.
Even a kind word or deed would warmly enfold
To make someone feel cared-for, and that they count
In this hurried, harried world where many do not count.
