The Short End of the Stick

I have experienced that feeling many, many times.
Where I'm from, it denoted something akin to scraping your last dime
From the bottom of the barrel. There was another one, too:
You're always two days late, two dollars short. The story of you.

When it happens to someone else, "That's just life - you'll be okay."
But when it happens to us, that appears a whole 'nother way.
I do feel I've had more than my uncommon share,
But with a dab of ingenuity and a whole lot of desperate prayer,

I hung in there. I've often pondered, "If these are lessons I need to learn,
I'm starting to feel it's about graduation time, and I'm growing concerned."
I guess, in our universal approach, our heavenly Father knows
Exactly what grade we're in, and He's listening to our tales of woe.
