The Part We Play

We're on this stage of life, playing a part we do not know.
We have no idea what this story is, nor which way it will go.
On stage, each person has already read the script.
You understand the story line and you proceed well equipped.

We are expected to write this story as we go along, not knowing
What the story line is or what direction we may be going
O, we try so hard to play it right and second guess the daily facts,
But the background information we absolutely lack.

In theatrics, what star would want to go out on the actor's stage
If there were no script and they knew not exactly what page
Of this story were they to make their grand entrance?
We must take what's there and improvise without a second glance.
