The Old Pasture Gate

How long has this gate been here? I can't even guess!
Some hands and hearts labored long to make this gate the best.
In my mind's eye, I see the one who labored long
To make this work of art to last. It would be so strong

To endure the traffic of the pasture for years yet to be,
Witnessed by the stones, the fence and the old oak tree.
Probably the closest he would come to sharing his mortality.
I am a witness now to some man's contribution. Where may he be?
