The Joke Was On The Worm

The tale has turned and I am on the receiving end.
I grabbed a bag of dried prunes to ably defend
My efforts to make breakfast a wholesome deal
And to prove my point - I can brag of a meal

That supplied some protein that I hadn't planned on.
After about five prunes, I finally looked when I saw one lone
Little worm making its way to its final daylight
From down somewhere within - but now he's gone.

He was getting his healthful meal and thinking he would live forever -
But now he's gone and probably all his family will never
Understand what went wrong. Now their life has ended
Even though they were eating well. Now that story has ended!
