The Blind Choice

When we reach into the "grab-bag" in life, when choosing
Life's offerings, we never, ever know if we are winning or losing.
There's the reward of surprise, if you were lucky that day.
All surprises aren't pleasant ones and some just come to stay.

Life is full of situations where we do not even get a choice.
No one ever, even offered you a chance to voice
What could have made the difference in "heaven or hell" on earth.
It seems to have passed you by on that earlier day of your birth.

There are probably more in our lives where we had no choice in what came
Than those fateful times when our current choice would make or break our name.
And how are you to know the culmination of choice or fate?
Either way could make or break. You have no way to really know!

We utilize our intelligence and former experiences to direct, when we can,
But no one ever knows where the dividing roads lead in this land.
We do our best with our blind choices and we pray a whole lot.
When we depart this world, what does it really matter how much we got?

Whatever "dead-ends" and foolish routes we chose is not the whole story.
It is the lessons learned and utilized that lifts this from sad and gory
To a life that made the "blind choices'" consequences pay in the end.
When utilized wisely, they become, not your enemy but your friend.
