The Betrayer And The Betrayed

How similar these two key words appear and sound
But the truth is - no greater divergence could ever be found.
The character of each are as diverse as the north and south poles.
The betrayer destroys and the betrayed feels destroyed. This story is so old.

But each time this transaction in human behavior occurs,
I'm sure some portion of heaven weeps and earth's advancement is deterred.
So often, the betrayal is done with a completely callous attitude -
No sadness, no regret and no remorse - not even in their solitude.

The betrayed is a very different scenario - they loved and trusted and was a friend -
In the betrayed, they were deceived and crushed completely in the end.
And what's so pathetic and so sad - one assumed friendship was completely destroyed -
Ending abruptly and sadly, being declared with finality as "null and void."
