Surprises Go Both Ways

And do they ever!! Oh, we love and dote on the pleasant ones
And just dwell in those special times. This time, we won!
I've never seen a world-wide survey taken on the good and the bad,
But look around and count the long faces hanging sad.

You'd hope it would go, at least, half and half and even things out
As we all work and plan and wait, trying our best to eliminate the doubt.
But surprises are running wild out there and by nature, unpredictable,
So our good surprises don't come in bunches; akin to life, they are fickle.
