One Of Our Earlier Lessons

We all have been deceived since we first began,
From the sand box through every experience known to man.
Frankly, I never understood why this scenario did exist!
I remember, as a child, how I longed and wished

That life could be perfect. I thought that if you were always kind
Others would respond in like manner. But I was to find
Variations on this concept that came as a mortal shock.
I finally accepted and dealt accordingly, but in my self defense I would lock

My outgoing personality and put a chain on the door
To investigate relationships before I dared open the door.
Of course there were grave deceptions, even so, but some I was spared
The full onslaught of deception running rampant by the ones who never cared.

When I was taught, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" I later understood the complete meaning. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, though many times they won't."
