Of All The Games
People play electronic games and board games and the list goes on and on;
Seems the challenge is the key. Some of these you can actually play alone.
These are fun and there'll always be new ones being invented,
But compared to our earthly life, these all pale in comparison. When was it that I consented
To come to this alien planet to play this game? I do not remember such.
But - all behind my back - I was to live here and experience life here. Nice touch!
Enough of the far out talk. I became aware one day at about three or four
That "this is where I am and I can't remember being here ever before.
If you've gotten past 50, I challenge you to tell me with a straight face
That this game of life was not the hardest game you ever played - anyplace.
The chances of winning big-time are the coveted goals in this game,
And the rules are basic but difficult to follow. People keep forgetting your name,
And should you win, your co-player loses interest and doesn't want to play any more.
Whatever games you ever play in this world will never begin to compare, as before,
With this existence on this planet. Even the meaning of "win" changes
From event to event and from one group to another, from one family, even to the strangers.
At least, in the computer and sports and board games, to play you must obey the rules,
But in this game of life, you are often playing with ones who disregard the rules.
They have only one goal in mind, and that's to win at any cost, including your loss.
So if you carefully scrutinize, it makes all other games asmall cost.
If I were asked in these, my sunset years, if I won or lost, I'd have to say
I feel I won in my heart because I played it long and fair to this day.
I made mistakes, but I played on and never, ever gave up. The game is not over.
My heavenly Father, then, will be the Judge when the game is over.
