My Seventy Fourth Celebration

It very well may be that progressing Christmas Days
Take on a significance even greater than our childish "Santa" days!
We begin to enumerate all the blessings we quite glibly accepted
Throughout our beginning years - generous in our "expectings"!

Our value system expands far beyond the glitter and shine,
Although that enhances all the other celebration of this kind.
We find ourselves involved in making dreams come true
For expanding circles of family, friends and even global needs we never knew.

As in every worthwhile endeavor, we grow in perspective
And learn to reach to include far beyond our introspection.
This is "growing up" as well as "growing old" when we become aware
Of the real meaning of Jesus' birth and how it relates to all the worlds out there.

This was written four years ago, so now I'm thankfully celebrating my 77th Christmas on this earth.
