Mother's Day Long Ago

I remember Mother's Day when I was a child. Every person wore
A rose to honor their Mother. A red rose said she was living, and others wore
A white rose, giving honor to their Mother who had passed.
I always felt saddened by the younger ones who wore the white rose.

I also remember some children whose mother was gone wore a red rose.
They stood up and said their older sister was now the "mother" they chose.
There are some wonderful Mothers in our world and always will be.
Their love for others transcends all else and sets their spirit free.

Wherever you have known this special one of heaven's gifts,
They will always be honored in your heart and give your soul a lift.
They may be gone now from earth, but they will always live in your heart.
So many kinds of love, but with a good Mother's love, you get a better start.
