Marking Time

We do a lot of this non-productive exercise as we go along,
Sometimes it's not by choice but something thrust upon us. Right or wrong,
This is part of the song of life and at times, we realize
These are the wasted intervals of our life, and our heart cries

To move on. But in the overview, which we can never see,
Until this process is past, there well may be
A practical purpose in marking time. It gives us a chance
To reflect and contemplate how, on second glance,

The past that was, and the future that is yet to come, can tie together.
Maybe we can profit from our past to endure future days of fairer weather.
Marking time may seem like wasted time, but the exercise
May keep you in shape for a future time, and some new prize.
