Long, Long Ago

When I get a touch of nostalgia I remember the song,
"Tell me the tales I delighted to hear long, long ago, long,
Long ago." Somehow it brings a soothing peaceful place
To linger and remember. Puts a smile on my face.

It brought peace to my mind when my elders sang it long ago
Because I felt I could travel back with them to a place I did not know.
I could share their memories of days when they were young
And listen to the reliving of all they did and songs they have sung.

Each generation may very well do the same. It will never end.
These stories will live on and each few years they will extend
To the younger ones who've never heard them before.
This is how families tie their bonds and strengthen the core

Of values and hopes and dreams and cautions of mistakes we made,
To make sure they get told before our memory fades.
And by some miracle these special bonding times
Return us to our younger days and take the youngsters to a place they'll find

That extends both ways through all the years
And ties us in relationships that give real strength, eliminating fears.
This is mankind's special legacy and when you are blessed in this way
It makes life more meaningful for those who follow on another day.
