Just One Bridge At A Time

I wrote a real winning poem a short while back.
It was named "The Bridge Across," and it drew lots of feedback.
I pondered all the bridges in my life and how many carried me
To where I sought to travel and places I truly needed to be.

In retrospect, I understand you can only cross one bridge at a time.
Each bridge we build and travel on fills a special purpose. Only time
Will reveal, on our tally sheet, what purpose that bridge served,
And what all we learned as we built, crossed and observed.

As we built and crossed our many bridges, each one bridged gaps
That we traveled over safely and with no harmful mishap.
That is real progress, but do keep in mind
That we can never cross but one bridge at a time.
