It Was Gone Before We Knew

In our youth, our limitations were measured only by our lack of imagination.
We didn't even consider we had any limitations.
We were so absorbed with our great creative creations,
All born from a loving heart, exuberance and some impatience.

In our youth, we're not quite sure how it came or how to use it.
Sometimes in our ignorance we unknowingly abuse it.
We're bubbling over with the knowledge it is our special gift,
But not real sure where we fit in and sometimes waiting for a lift.

I believe we could enjoy the younger years if we had some vague clue
What we're to do and how we fit in. We never in reality know.
This is how youth is wasted - with no idea who we are or where we're headed.
A loss happening as we watched, knowing not where we were headed.
