It Happens To Almost Everyone
Somewhere back there in the dim, dim past
I vaguely recall some ancient proverbs from the vast
Sea of elders who'd been around - like forever
Since I could remember. You just accept who's here and never
Question much about who's who, and how they got here.
It's all just accepted - like what you hear.
Somehow, looking back, it seems to actually appear
That this situation is the status quo and life will remain as is year after year.
Everyone will live forever including your family and you,
But just one itty bitty exception appears on your mental screen: "What happens to you
When everyone else stays the same. You plan to grow up." Then reality as you know it
Begins the reasoning process and some enlightenment of your wit.
When you do grow up and realize and understand you suddenly become aware
Of the process and how the generations meet, visit and go their way.
I vaguely remember the old saying, "every dog has his day"
And I'd think: "What dog? What day?" Only age brings meaning when youth has had its day.
