In How Many Ways Does This Apply?

I viewed this superstitious belief for at least seven years of my childhood,
Not quite believing nor not entirely disbelieving. I would
Just observe when and how it happened so I
Could put it all together and shed some light and wonder why.

If you glimpsed the new moon over your left shoulder,
Then good luck was headed your way and I was watching as the beholder.
They further explained if that happened over the right shoulder. You understood
That your luck may not be real bad but neither would it be real good.

I finally concluded this was a game of no consequence
Because I noted that the players, neither before nor since
Would accept the right shoulder prediction, it really didn't mean a thing.
Only the left shoulder meant something; the good luck it would bring!
