If You Were Asked

If you were asked by anyone, "If you could go back,
What time in your life would call the loudest to come back?"
Your choice usually denotes some pleasant memories for you,
All the way back from early freedom days, no cares for you.

Some find a whole world of happiness in their teen-age years.
Some found much more happiness than saddened tears.
Finishing those years of school taught much more than books.
You learned the art of responsibility and finishing what you undertook.

You may recall your courting days or honeymoon.
Life may tell you even then, "These days will pass too soon."
Fulfillment of all we ever hoped would be our heaven on earth
Does not always offer us all we hoped for from day of our birth.

Another segment you may recall with pleasure
Is the beginning of your marriage: 'Twas to be your great treasure.
Any new members born to you only enhanced the promised "forever."
These years are filled with every emotion known to man. If you are clever

You'll guard these days especially close and store up a thousand pictures
For replaying these days that won't be back. A strange mixture
Of joy and sorrow and everything qualifying for in-between.
These will be your way of going back, the "good old days" to redeem.
