If You Could Sum It Up

What do you feel your "total" would be at this point in time?
Maybe some days we lose a little and then at other times
We feel we gained a bit. I often wonder if there was a way
To measure this, how it would all prove out. Maybe the day

We leave this world, we'll hear our total advancement. We will know
Exactly how it evened out. I believe most of us truly try to go
By the golden rule. We consider our world in need of caring ones.
We do try to treat others as we'd prefer to be treated by everyone.

Maybe we should try to figure as we go, whether we're gaining or losing,
Often by some thoughtless choices we may be carelessly choosing
Similar to balancing under-fed and over-used checking account.
At least you'll keep updated and be aware of your remaining amount.
