If You Can Laugh

If you can laugh instead of cry, it means you have a handle on it.
Think about it! How many of us who are with it
Are laughing so we can hide the tears in order to diffuse
The negative that expresses so very often as abuse.

When we laugh, it's not always about "the current event is all that funny."
Probably some soul trying to be happy and somewhat sunny.
To brave the current challenge or somesuch event that's not so funny.
If you've lived long, you know them also, and I can tell you, honey,

We never, ever stop inventing our little attempted detours
To sidestep around life's pitfalls and open, dangerous sewers.
Wonder how many are laughing this moment, while those are not laughter tears
But tears of hurt and sorrow and hope for a cheerful tomorrow with no tears.
