If This Is All There Is

We've all heard this lament. In fact, we may have thought
It ourselves when life was dishing up a smorgasbord we never sought.
Desperation puts strange words in our mouth, and sometimes
We just speak our what's disturbing our peaceful equilibrium at the time.

It seems some lives balance out more than others. We all
Get hit with junk we never sought - we felt was not our call,
But it's when it gets to feeling so ungraciously unequal that we
Rear up on our hind legs and complain for all the world to hear and see.

When you rebel, it simply means you have feelings and self respect.
You've done your best, and you feel you deserve better. You reflect
And ponder, but you still feel you've got the short end of the stick.
This is your life, and it's supposed to be respected, not some "flick."

All indications point to desperation and complete loss of hope.
Hope is a natural response in this life, and sometimes hangs on as we grope.
The human spirit is tough and resilient, and it's a good thing,
For in this earthly life, we are tested to the outer limit. If we bring

Some victories from experience, it will back us up and sustain.
We have learned faith and resourcefulness and to endure endless pain.
In case you've ever wondered, looking back how you made it through,
There in your heart is the answer waiting to remind you.
