How Will You Be Remembered?
When we're young, this seldom ever crosses our mind.
"Today" is our day, and that's where we spend all of our time.
What we can't pack into this day we're planning on another day.
At age twenty, every day is just today, but day without end, each new day.
You'll be remembered in different ways as life goes on its way.
At eighteen, your past was so brief, only spoken of as "yesterday."
Most of your life was spoken of as hopes and plans for a future day.
We early learn how past, present and future soon change places along the way.
The memories of your life are in segments to you
And to those who have traveled with you,
As the segments wind down, there is more to remember
And less to plan on near your final December.
It is well, in this land, if we leave a worthy legacy when we die,
But how often are we concerned with the part of us that moves on?
Your diary of this sojourn is now a living past of your soul,
The part of you that moves on. Your memory will live on, as does your soul.
We aren't straws blowing in the wind but worthwhile souls,
Always striving to advance in earth, from days of old
To our journey beyond earth, where we'll continue on.
Let's leave a memory to guide another on this way, when we're gone.
