Have Your Eyes Noticed?

Whatever our lives are lacking, we usually find a way to compensate.
Even though our heart may feel empty, we fill our stomach, never evaluating
What the heck we're doing. Any emotional lack seems to call
For food to soothe our emptiness. Listen, a full stomach covers all.

We know instinctively that eating fills more needs than just hunger pangs.
It gives us temporary comfort to salve our sorrows and a wide range
Of material needs. If we could control all our unrecognized hungers and needs
We might could organize which is which and try to adjust to where each need leads.
