Golly! What A Jolly Day!

These are the words that sprang to mind on this gorgeous day.
It could be any day but today is July 7, 1997 and the last few days
Have been celebrated by families with picnics, get-togethers and fireworks -
And the most of what we could loosely term, "hard work"

Was rubbing over-full stomachs and lighting fireworks till late at night.
I live alone so my "big deal" was sitting on my back porch, out of sight
And watching all the displays of celebration. It was a beautiful sight!
It also brought back  "long ago" memories when kids and grandkids spent the night.

And we did some magic things and sparked the imagination of the young ones.
Nothing like children to lend the festive air and help create some special fun.
So I sit here a few days later and relive July 4th again and many others past
And revel in the beauty, the sheer joy of living, and the memories will last!

Today, the celebrations and such are gone and we must wait for another year
As we settle back to hum-drum affairs to live in our memories. A single tear
Makes its way down my face. I am so thankful for these memories and all my days
Which have been given to me. I have been so blessed and sing everlasting praise.

Twenty years from now, this glorious celebration will still be celebrated.
People and places and ages and circumstances will still be congregated.
A bit of me will live on in them. The ripple of our circle spreads.
"Twill find the aging fading at the edges while newer, stronger ones replace older heads.

My Great Grandchildren will have even more to celebrate and treasure.
A hundred years hence in 2097, maybe life will be bountiful beyond measure.
It will be a completely new scene with all of us here today, gone on to our new place.
And that's the way it's always been - long before we saw this earthly place.

Golly! It's a "Jolly" day. Just reiterating some facts of history at this particular hour.
Just honoring my special gift that I was blessed with by God's great power.
May each of us pass our torch to those who follow - may we prove a good example
And maybe even prove to be the best and most effective sample.
