Fool's Paradise

We've heard this exclamation throughout our days.
As a child, we probably wondered what "The Sam Hill" was this craze.
I had never heard of that place and they did not discuss it at school.
Where was this "strange name" place? Little did I realize that we each play the fool

Somewhere along life's journey. Not consciously, of course,
We're smarter than that but that promise of paradise precludes any force.
However it plays out in each different life, we sometimes fall into a trap
And we find it - all by ourselves - without even a state map.
