Come On September, Come On
As August almost burned us alive, seems like they get hotter every year,
And they seem to last forever, as they get longer, too, I fear.
However, September came in just like August left us, so we're still scorching.
It feels like a forest fire, somewhere between smoldering and torching.
Maybe in a couple of weeks September will start behaving like it should.
To all of us, it will be a broken summer record for our neighborhood.
I'm sure all people who have to work outside in this deadly heat
Feel "done in," like a state of deep and utter defeat.
All the outdoor animals are suffering, and if they pray, they're praying
For cooler weather, just as we, too, have been wishing and saying,
"Come on September - and October - 'cause we're so tired of this heat."
It leaves you worn to a frazzle and feeling limply like defeat.
