Caring Can Not Be Legislated
It seems so backward that all the positive qualities are left entirely up to us.
Only is there a penalty for not selecting them. With disgust
We question why we wait until the damage is already done,
Then attempt to right the wrong that should have never been done.
But the only acceptable answer seems to reflect the laws of our land;
You can't legislate a moral code. That would impinge upon the free will of man.
Which seems to forever place the keeper of the law
At the mercy of those who could care less about the law.
Maybe, someday, our system will find a way to even out the risk,
To protect abiders of the law against the ones who eternally insist
That their right to abuse other's rights is all the law we need.
Is there, I ask, a way to repopulate our world with a better seed?
